Damian Willemse has revealed how instinct and analysis combined for his game-turning try against the Vodacom Bulls.

Trailing 7-0 at Loftus and down to 13 men for a period after two yellow cards, the Stormers needed a spark โ€“ and Willemse provided it with a perfectly timed run that led to a pivotal score.

โ€œObviously we do a lot of analysis, and there are spaces you see,โ€ Willemse said. โ€œI did see it during the week [when reviewing Bulls footage], and then in the game the opportunity presented itself.โ€

The Springbok playmaker described how the moment unfolded in real time.

โ€œI made eye contact with Stef [Stefan Ungerer] and he picked me up โ€“ it was the perfect call from him,โ€ he said. โ€œI just hit the gap at the perfect time.

โ€œKudos to Stef for picking me up and throwing that ball right at the line and, yeah, I ran through.โ€

The try proved decisive, not just on the scoreboard but psychologically, as the Stormers clawed their way back into the contest despite being under immense pressure.
