Johan Ackermann is quietly broadening his Vodacom Bulls squad, with another strong signing on the horizon.

With Kurt-Lee Arendse set to depart for Japan at the end of the season, Ackermann and his management team have moved swiftly to identify a player capable of filling that attacking void.

Rapport understands that negotiations are at an advanced stage with winger Thaakir Abrahams, who has impressed in the Vodacom URC for both the Sharks and Munster.

Crucially, Abrahams is not yet a Springbok, meaning he would be available throughout the season.

ACKERS: Cameron showed his class

The 27-year-old has built a reputation as a dangerous attacking threat, equally comfortable on the wing or at fullback. Since joining Munster in 2024, he has continued to showcase his ability to unlock defences, following a prolific stint in France with Lyon.

Before his move abroad, Abrahams made his name in South Africa after coming through the ranks at Western Province and breaking into senior rugby with the Sharks, where he debuted in 2020.

It was during that spell that he announced himself as a genuine X-factor player, producing moments of brilliance – including a stunning solo try against Leinster that earned a Try of the Season nomination.

KEO: Papier in power performance as Bulls charge in URC

Ackermann’s recruitment drive, however, is not limited to one player.

The Bulls have already secured the services of Dylan Maart, who will arrive from the Griquas after the Currie Cup, adding further pace to their ranks.

Meanwhile, discussions are also ongoing to bring Curwin Bosch back to South Africa from Brive.
